Sand Hill Elementary School
School Counseling Program
The school counseling program at Sand Hill Elementary is designed to be proactive and developmental. Services provided include: classroom guidance, individual student counseling, small group counseling, and assisting parents in locating appropriate community resources when necessary.
All students in kindergarten through fifth grade will receive classroom guidance. We go to each classroom, one day a week for 30 minutes for 6 weeks dependent on each teacher’s schedule. Lessons will vary depending on the grade level, however, all grade levels will receive lessons on bullying and bully prevention. Common topics include: friendship, cooperation, respect, and making appropriate choices.
Individual student counseling/consultation is available to all students through parent/guardian referral or teacher request.
In addition to seeing students individually and in classroom guidance, we teach skills and provide information in small group settings. The small counseling groups offered at Sand Hill are: Anger Management, Divorce, Grief and Self-Esteem. Students can be referred to a group through parent and/or teacher request. However, a student can ONLY attend small group counseling after a permission form has been signed and returned by a parent or guardian.
